Happy December! It's probably one of the busiest and most action packed months of the year, and it gets off to a great start today, Steveston-style. December 1st (and running the entire month) the Festival of Trees is a festive way to see themed trees decorated by businesses and community groups inside the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site (see a sneak peek of ours below).
Save the date! This Sunday, December 4th Santa arrives in the village aboard a Vancouver Whale Watch boat. This Steveston tradition is always as a favourite as adoring crowds filled with wide eyed children, parents and other fans wave and cheer as the vessel arrives and Santa works his way towards the Gulf of Georgia Cannery (where you can bring your own camera and snap a shot). Make a full day of it - climb aboard an old-fashioned horse drawn carriage with Christmas tunes playing, put a blanket over your lap, and as the carriage circles the village you can wave to onlookers - it's always great fun! Add in some shopping (at Pieces of course!), dining, strolling with a warm beverage - it all adds up to a merry old time in Steveston village.
We are excited to carry Steveston author Jackie Poon's new book, A Child's Christmas In Whales. Read below for a partial plot summary (no spoilers!) A great gift idea for small and BIG kids!
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to spend Christmas in a whale? A Child's Christmas in Whales is a delightful picture book about a boy who spends every Christmas with his family inside of a whale. That is, until he gets wind of what Christmas outside of a whale looks like–one in which a Santa comes and delivers presents.
In observance of Remembrance Day Pieces will be closed.
Christmas 2016 has made its grand debut at Pieces. The elves outdid themselves this year - we are so pleased with their displays! The fireside scene is making us want to stop working immediately and pull out a book, a warm mug of cocoa and curl up with the assorted creatures who are toasting their toes by the fire. It may only be the beginning of November, but it's already beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Pieces!
Matilda the skating hippo and her supporting cast of winter wonderland critters! As many of you know the song "I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas" has become a bit of an anthem at Pieces, so it only seemed fitting that our friend should be showcased in the Pieces window this year.
She's fun, a little bit cheeky and loves to be the centre of attention!
Day by day we add more "pieces" to the store to help you prepare for the holiday season ahead. We look forward to showing you all of the wonderful products as they arrive. For regular updates make sure you watch our Facebook page.
